Abstract (English)

Let M be a closed connected oriented odd-dimensional manifold. The Atiyah–Patodi–Singer-ρ-invariant assigns to a unitary representation α of the fundamental group a real number ρ(M,α). In other words, given M and a natural number k, we can view the ρ-invariant as a function defined on the variety Rₖ(π₁(M)) of k-dimensional unitary representations of the fundamental group of M. Cheeger and Gromov defined an L²-analogue of the ρ-invariant, called the L²-ρ-invariant, which assigns to a closed connected oriented (4n−1)-dimensional manifold and a group homomorphism Φ: π₁(M) → G a real number ρ⁽²⁾(M,Φ).

In this thesis, we consider a closed connected oriented 3-dimensional manifold M. We study the set of discontinuities of the ρ-invariant restricted to certain tori in Rₖ(π₁(M)) and relate those discontinuities to the zeros of a multi-variable twisted Alexander polynomial. As a consequence, we deduce that the Riemann integral of the ρ-invariant over a suitable chosen torus exists. Given an epimorphism Φ: π₁(M) → ℤˡ one can choose a torus in R₁(π₁(M)) such that the Riemann integral of the ρ-invariant over that torus equals the L²-ρ-invariant ρ⁽²⁾(M,Φ).

Die Atiyah–Patodi–Singer ρ-Invariante ordnet einer unitären Darstellung α der Fundamentalgruppe eine reelle Zahl ρ(M,α) zu. Anders gesagt, für festes M und k können wir die ρ-Invariante als Funktion betrachten, welche auf der Varietät Rₖ(π₁(M)) der k-dimensionalen unitären Darstellungen der Fundamentalgruppe definiert ist. Cheeger und Gromov haben ein L²-Analogon der ρ-Invariante eingeführt, die L²-ρ-Invariante, welche einer geschlossenen zusammenhängenden orientierten (4n−1)-dimensionalen Mannigfaltigkeit M und einem Gruppemhomomorphismus Φ: π₁(M) → G eine reelle Zahl ρ⁽²⁾(M,Φ) zuordnet.

In dieser Arbeit betrachten wir geschlossene zusammenhängende orientierte 3-dimensionale Mannigfaltigkeiten. Wir untersuchen die Menge der Unstetigkeitsstellen der ρ-Invariante beschränkt auf einen geeignet gewählten Torus in Rₖ(π₁(M)) und setzen diese Unstetigkeiten in Zusammenhang mit der Nullstellenmenge eines multivariaten Alexanderpolynoms. Als Folgerung erhalten wir, dass das Riemannintegral von der ρ-Invariante über einen geeignet gewählten Torus existiert. Gegeben einen Epimorphismus Φ: π₁(M) → ℤˡ, kann ein Torus in R₁(π₁(M)) so gewählt werden, dass das Integral der ρ-Invariante über diesen Torus gleich der L²-ρ-Invariante ρ⁽²⁾(M,Φ) ist.
