The reactivity of different complexes containing polyphosphorus ligands towards nucleophiles was investigated. Different nucleophiles and different reactivity was observed. All new molecules were charcterized by NMR spectroscopy and X-ray investigations. Neutral nucelophiles react with Cp*FeP5 in an equilibrium reactions. Different NMR spectroscopy experiments were needed to explain the dynamic behavior in this system. The reactions of Cp*FeP5 with nucleophiles yield anionic complexes and subsequent reactions with electrophiles leads to the formation of neutral complexes. The nucleophiles as well as the electrophiles attack the same phosphorus atom of the cyclo-P5 ring leading to the formation of a distorted P5 unit containing two substituents. The complex Cp''Ta(CO)2P4 react with neutral nucleophiles under P abstraction. This yields a P cation stabilized by two NHC fragments and a TaP3 anionic complex. In the case of OH- and tBu- anions, the P4 ring of Cp''Ta(CO)2P4 stays intact and the anions attack the P4 ring.
