Molecular polyphosphorus compounds are highly interesting species owing to their crucial role in the synthesis of industrially relevant phosphanes (PR3) and other P1 building blocks. Furthermore, they are fundamentally related to many ubiquitous carbon based compounds by isolobality as well as the cross relation of carbon and phosphorus. This analogy can sometimes even be transferred to heavier pnictogens, namely arsenic, antimony and bismuth. However, the preparation of polypnictogen comounds is extremely challenging, due to their sensitivity of oxygen, moisture and light. While coordination to transition metals has historically allowed the synthesis of elaborate polypnictogen complexes, this has barely been explored for cationic polypnictogen species. This thesis introduces a library of transition metal stabilized polypnictogen cations via electrophilic functionalization, coordination and oxidation of neutral polypnictogen ligand complexes. This gives rise to species, such as a coordinated pentaphosphole ligand (cyclo-P5H), a cyclo-P8 complex or a prismatic As6 cluster, which shows structural integrity over five redox states. Lastly, the reactivity of these polypnictogen cations towards a set of stable carbenes and anionic nucleophiles is explored. Intiguingly, the observed reactivity differs greatly from what is observed for neutral polypnictogen ligand complexes. Thus, the polypnictogen cations developed herein may serve future investigations towards even more elaborate polypnictogen compounds.

Molekulare Polyphosphorverbindungen sind, aufgrund ihrer entscheidenden Rolle bei der Synthese industriell relevanter Phosphane (PR3) und anderer P1-Bausteine, äußerst interessante Spezies. Darüber hinaus sind sie durch Isolobalität sowie die Kreuzbeziehung von Kohlenstoff und Phosphor fundamental mit vielen ubiquitären Kohlenstoffverbindungen verwandt. Diese Analogie lässt sich manchmal sogar auf schwerere Pniktogene, namentlich Arsen, Antimon und Wismut, übertragen. Allerdings stellt die Herstellung von Polypniktogen-Verbindungen, aufgrund ihrer Empfindlichkeit gegenüber Sauerstoff, Feuchtigkeit und Licht, immer noch eine große Herausforderung dar. Während die Koordination an Übergangsmetalle in der Vergangenheit die Synthese komplexer Polypniktogen-Komplexe ermöglichte, wurde dies für kationische Polypniktogen-Spezies kaum untersucht. Diese Arbeit stellt eine Sammlung übergangsmetallstabilisierter Polypniktogen-Kationen vor, welche durch elektrophile Funktionalisierung, Koordination und Oxidation neutraler Polypniktogen-Liganden Komplexe dargestellt werden können. Dadurch entstehen Spezies wie ein koordinierter Pentaphosphol-Ligand (cyclo-P5H), ein cyclo-P8-Komplex oder ein prismatischer As6-Cluster, der über fünf Redox-Zustände strukturelle Integrität aufweist. Abschließend wird die Reaktivität dieser Polypniktogen-Kationen gegenüber einer Reihe stabiler Carbene und anionischer Nukleophile untersucht. Interessanterweise unterscheidet sich die beobachtete Reaktivität stark von der für neutrale Polypniktogen-Ligand Komplexe beobachteten. Daher könnten die hier entwickelten Polypniktogen-Kationen künftigen Untersuchungen zu noch komplexeren Polypniktogen-Verbindungen dienen.
