Abstract (English)

This study examines the theoretical and methodological foundations of experimental psychological research. First, the importance of general philosophy of science considerations for science as a practical research activity is identified and applied to psychology as a scientific discipline. The main focus here is on epistemological aspects, in particular the nature of the psyche as the object of investigation in psychology and the conditions under which it is possible to systematically investigate, grasp, and understand the psyche in a scientific manner.
It is then shown that the method of investigation - in the form of quantitative, empirical and experimental procedures - dominates in psychology and that analyses of the object of investigation is largely determined by this methodological framework. This methodological paradigm thus also forms the center of gravity that holds psychology together as a scientific discipline.
An analysis of the experiment as a research method on the basis of postmodern approaches also shows that in psychology, too, the experiment is a deliberate re-construction of a psychical phenomenon. This means that implicit or explicit assumptions must be taken into account when interpreting results, as otherwise various types of distortion may occur.
An experiment showing that the alleged superiority of retrieval practice as a learning strategy over comprehension-oriented learning strategies such as concept mapping is based on a methodological artifact illustrates how implicit methodological assumptions can lead to problematic results.
Against this background, it is finally discussed that the fit between the object of investigation and the investigation methods used is a fundamental and crucial prerequisite for the possibility of scientifically investigating the psyche.

In dieser Studie werden theoretische und methodologische Grundlagen experimentalpsychologischer Forschung untersucht. Zunächst wird die Bedeutung allgemeiner wissenschaftstheoretischer Überlegungen für Wissenschaft als praktische Forschungstätigkeit herausgearbeitet und auf die Psychologie als wissenschaftlicher Disziplin angewendet. Dabei liegt das Hauptaugenmerk auf epistemologischen Aspekten, insbesondere der Natur der Psyche als Untersuchungsgegenstand der Psychologie und den Bedingungen der Möglichkeit, die Psyche wissenschaftlich systematisch zu untersuchen, zu erfassen und zu verstehen.
Im Anschluss daran wird aufgezeigt, dass in der Psychologie die Untersuchungsmethode – in Form von quantitativen, empirischen und experimentellen Verfahren – dominiert und die Untersuchung des Untersuchungsgegenstandes in hohem Maße durch diesen methodischen Rahmen bedingt ist. Dieses methodologische Paradigma bildet daher auch das Gravitationszentrum, das die Psychologie als wissenschaftliche Disziplin zusammenhält.
Eine Analyse des Experiments als Untersuchungsmethode auf der Basis postmoderner Ansätze zeigt weiterhin, dass das Experiment auch in der Psychologie eine gezielte Re-Konstruktion eines psychischen Vorgangs ist. Dies bedeutet, dass implizite oder explizite Vorannahmen bei der Interpretation von Ergebnissen berücksichtigt werden müssen, da es andernfalls zu verschiedensten Verzerrungen kommen kann.
Anhand eines Experiments, das zeigt, dass die angebliche Überlegenheit von Abruf als Lernstrategie gegenüber verstehensorientierten Lernstrategien wie concept mapping auf einem methodischen Artefakt beruht, wird illustriert, wie implizite methodische Vorannahmen zu problematischen Ergebnissen führen können.
Vor diesem Hintergrund wird abschließend diskutiert, dass die Passung zwischen dem Untersuchungsgegenstand und den verwendeten Untersuchungsmethoden eine grundlegende und entscheidende Voraussetzung für die Möglichkeit darstellt, die Psyche wissenschaftlich zu untersuchen zu können.
