Peptidyl-tRNA hydrolase (encoded by pth) is an essential enzyme in all bacteria, where it releases tRNA from the premature translation termination product peptidyl-tRNA. Archaeal genomes lack a recognizable peptidyl-tRNA hydrolase (Pth) ortholog, although it is present in most eukaryotes.
